Carnegie Mellon only offers financial aid to U.S. citizens, permanent residents and DACA recipients. If you're an international student who plans to enroll at Carnegie Mellon, you and your family must assume the total cost of attendance.

All incoming first-year students are required to live on campus. Permission for first-year students to commute must be granted by Student Affairs. 

2 Food expenses for commuters is reduced based on a student's expected time on campus. For returning students, resident and off-campus food expenses is estimated using first-year resident food expenses minus $310.

3 The first-year experience fee is applicable for both incoming first-year undergraduates and incoming transfer students.

4 These expenses will not appear on your student account.

5 Students who borrow federal loans will incur loan origination fees of 1.057% for Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans and 4.228% for Federal Parent PLUS Loans. These fees will be included in an individual student's cost of attendance for financial aid purposes, as applicable.

6 Transportation allowance for resident and off-campus students varies based on home state.

+ Health insurance coverage is also required. While the premium for 2024-2025 will be announced later this spring, the 2023-2024 individual premium was $2,577/year. If a student is covered under a family's health plan, a waiver may be submitted to University Health Services for approval. View more details on the University Health Services website.
