The Biological Sciences Department Breaks the Boundaries of Science
The Biological Sciences department provides students with rigorous training in biology, while building a strong foundation in all of the natural sciences. Our students study biology at the macro and micro scales, focusing on four core areas:
- genetics and molecular biology
- biochemistry and biophysics
- cell and developmental biology
- neuroscience
More than 80% of our students participate in biology research at some point during their time at Carnegie Mellon, and the percentage of students participating in study abroad experiences continues to rise each year.
Undergraduate Degrees in Biological Sciences
- BS in Biological Sciences
- BS in Biological Sciences/Neuroscience track
- BS in Biological Sciences and Psychology
- BS in Neuroscience
- BA in Biological Sciences with an additional major Degree Options
For those students interested in specialized training in an area of biology, we offer eight degree options that are earned through completion of advanced electives:
- Biochemisty
- Biophysics
- Cell Biology
- Developmental Biology
- Genetics
- Molecular Biology
- Neuroscience
